Ross Scorziell got on a boat in Naples, Italy and a month and a half later landed in the land of dreams…America. He didn’t speak the language and he had little more than pennies in his pockets. But he had a dream and a burning desire to make that dream come true. To succeed he knew he would have to rely on old world craftsmanship and new world innovation.
Ross Scorziell founded Banner Mattress as a wholesale mattress manufacturer. Sold in local shops and retail stores, Banner Mattress offered hand made, quality mattresses.
Ross' son Geno Scorziell took over management of the company. As Banner Mattress' new leader, Geno began plans to expand the company to offer new lines and quality products to more customers in Southern California.
Banner Mattress expands to include major furniture stores of the time and a few large department stores including May Co. and Harris'. Banner becomes a "King Koil" license.
Banner began to recognize the trend of the retail mattress store to be a viable business model for bringing their high quality handmade mattresses to the consumer at wholesale prices and began the search for their first storefront.
Banner Mattress opens the doors at their first retail store in San Bernardino, CA. Located next to the Banner Mattress I Street factory, local residents could now purchase their freshly constructed bed straight off the factory line at a fraction of the cost of other local retailers.
Banner purchases a small adjustable bed manufacturing company. “Cutting out the middle man” once again, Banner Mattress now manufactures and sells direct to the consumer lifestyle, adjustable bases and mattresses!
In an effort to provide customers with mattress technologies patented by other makers, Banner added the Simmons brand to their store, moving Banner into the mix as a mattress retailer. This gave Banner customers greater flexibility in choosing the right mattress for them, even if it wasn't a Banner-built product.
Continuing the desire to provide customers with new, patented advances in mattress technology, Banner Mattress adds Tempur-Pedic to their retail stores. Customers could try out new memory foam technology and compare to more traditionally manufactured mattresses right in the same store.2010
Lisa Scorziell, who had been serving as the company President, becomes co-CEO of Banner Mattress.
Solidifying a presence as a full-line mattress retailer, Banner introduces Serta, Sealy, and Stearns & Foster to its retail store locations, enabling customers to try out and choose their perfect mattress without having to shop many different stores or travel out of their local area.
Banner launches their e-Commerce site, allowing customers to not only compare mattresses in one convenient digital stop, but purchase their mattresses from their home and have them delivered straight to their front door.
