Hands-on review of Tulo's bamboo and lavender memory foam mattresses by Mattress Firm - firmness, performance, who it's best for, and whether the budget bed-in-a-box is worth it in 2026.
Tulo is Mattress Firm's in-house bed-in-a-box brand, built around two affordable all-foam lines - the green-tea-infused Bamboo and the lavender-scented Lavender - sold in multiple heights so you can pick a profile that matches your size, sleep style, and budget. After hands-on testing across the 6", 8", 10", and 12" profiles, here's how it performs in 2026.
The Tulo Bamboo and Tulo Lavender are reliable budget memory-foam mattresses with strong motion isolation, decent pressure relief, and queen pricing well under $700. They're a good match for back sleepers and lighter side sleepers who want classic memory-foam contouring without paying for a premium brand. They're a poor match for heavier stomach sleepers, hot sleepers who run very warm, and shoppers who want a fragrance-free experience (the Lavender model is genuinely scented).

Both the Bamboo and Lavender lines share the same three-layer all-foam architecture; only the comfort-layer infusion and cover branding change.
Firmness varies by height, which is the single most important spec to get right. On a 1-10 scale (10 = firmest):
If you're comparing notes with older Banner reviews that listed Tulo as a 7.5/10 across the board, that referred specifically to the 6" Firm profile. The 10" and 12" beds Mattress Firm sells most often today are noticeably softer.
Tulo's strongest category. The slow-response memory foam absorbs almost all partner movement, especially in the 10" and 12" profiles. We barely registered a glass of water on the opposite side during our toss-and-turn test.
Solid for back and lighter side sleepers. The 10" Medium spreads weight evenly across shoulders and hips, and we measured no notable pressure spikes for sleepers under 200 lbs. Heavier side sleepers will likely want a hybrid with a thicker foam top.
Average for an all-foam build. Gel infusion and the bamboo-derived cover help, but classic memory foam still traps more body heat than coil hybrids. Cool sheets and a breathable mattress protector make a real difference.
Adequate in the 6" and 8" profiles, weaker in the 10" and 12". If you sit on the edge to put on shoes, you'll feel some compression. Couples sleeping close to the edge of a queen will notice it more than full-size buyers.
Mild for the Bamboo, more pronounced for the Lavender (the scent is intentional). Either way, plan to air it out for 24-48 hours in a ventilated room before sleeping on it.

Tulo Bamboo Memory Foam (full retail; sale pricing usually 15-30% lower):
Tulo Lavender Memory Foam (price spread is wider because heights run 6" through 12"):
Tulo is Mattress Firm's house brand, manufactured for them and sold exclusively at Mattress Firm stores, mattressfirm.com, and a few partner retailers like Amazon.
Yes - the lavender oil infusion is genuine and noticeable straight out of the box. The scent fades over the first few weeks but doesn't disappear entirely. If you're scent-sensitive, choose the Bamboo line instead.
The 10" Medium and 12" Medium-Plush can help back sleepers with general lower-back pain by cradling the lumbar curve. Sleepers with severe back pain or heavier body types usually do better on a medium-firm hybrid with stronger lumbar support.
Plan on 6-7 years of useful life - typical for all-foam construction. Rotating it head-to-foot every six months helps prevent body impressions.
The original Bamboo and Lavender lines are all-foam. Mattress Firm has since added Tulo Green Tea 2.0 hybrid models with pocketed coils, which are sold separately.
Most adult sleepers do best with the 10" Medium - it balances sinkage, support, and price. Pick 6" or 8" for guest rooms and kids, and 12" if you're a lighter side sleeper who wants a deeper hug.
Tulo earns its budget reputation. For a queen under $600, you get genuine memory-foam contouring, excellent motion isolation, and a 120-night trial backed by Mattress Firm's nationwide store network - meaning you can lie on one before you buy. It isn't the coolest sleeper or the most durable bed on the market, but it's an honest, low-risk pick for back sleepers, couples, and anyone who wants classic memory foam without crossing the $1,000 line.
