We tested the WinkBed Luxury Firm against the Helix Midnight. Here's how the two hybrids compare on feel, firmness, price, and warranty.
The WinkBed and the Helix are both bed-in-a-box hybrid mattresses that layer foam over coils, so it's easy to assume they feel the same. They don't. We tested the WinkBed Luxury Firm against the Helix Midnight and found two beds built for different sleepers. Here's how they stack up on feel, firmness, construction, price, and the company policies you'll deal with after you buy.
Both beds are quality hybrids, but each is better suited to certain sleepers than others. The WinkBed has a classic, bouncy innerspring feel with strong edge support, while the Helix Midnight contours more like memory foam and isolates motion better.
| Feature | WinkBed (Luxury Firm) | Helix Midnight |
|---|---|---|

Get the WinkBed if you want a slightly more luxurious mattress, love a traditional innerspring feel, or need more support. Get the Helix Midnight if you want to spend less, enjoy a slower-moving feel on top, or sleep on your side.

Even though they come from different brands, the WinkBed and Helix Midnight share several traits.
The WinkBed and Helix are not the same bed. The clearest differences show up in feel and customization.

Firmness and feel decide whether a mattress matches your position and body type, so this is where most shoppers should start.
We ranked both the WinkBed Luxury Firm and the Helix Midnight around 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for average firmness is 6.5/10, so both beds sit a little firmer than average. Firmness is subjective, so depending on your weight you might find either bed a touch softer or firmer than our read.
The WinkBed has an innerspring feel with a plush pillow-top. It's bouncy and responsive, and you should find it easy to move around on top. The Helix has a balanced hybrid feel, with top layers that move slowly the way memory foam does. It isn't as responsive as the WinkBed, but the coil bounce keeps you from feeling stuck.
While back-sleeping on the WinkBed Luxury Firm, we got a good balance of comfort and support, and the zoning added lumbar support that kept the spine aligned. We felt too much pressure side-sleeping on it. The Helix gave better pressure relief for side-sleeping thanks to its slower-moving comfort layers, which contour around the shoulder and hip. Stomach-sleeping went the other way: the WinkBed offered decent support, while the Helix didn't give quite enough.
The right pick shifts with both your weight and your sleeping position.
Average-weight back sleepers get plenty of spinal support and good lumbar support on the WinkBed Luxury Firm. Average-weight side sleepers will likely want the extra pressure relief of the Helix Midnight. The WinkBed is the better match for average-weight stomach sleepers, since the Helix probably isn't supportive enough for that position.
Heavyweight sleepers can get adequate support on the WinkBed Luxury Firm, though many will prefer the WinkBed Plus, which is built specifically for larger people. The Helix Midnight generally isn't the best match here: it likely isn't supportive enough for stomach or back sleeping and may feel too firm for side sleeping.
The WinkBed Luxury Firm is a solid all-around match for lightweight sleepers across positions. The Helix Midnight also works for lightweight sleepers, and lightweight side sleepers in particular should get even better pressure relief on the Helix.

The two beds use similar hybrid blueprints but different materials.
| Layer | WinkBed | Helix Midnight |
|---|---|---|
| Cover | Tencel, tufted with gel-infused foam | Soft Breathe Knit, optional cooling upgrade |
| Comfort layer | Gel-infused foam pillow-top | Memory Plus Foam over responsive foam |
| Support layer | Individually wrapped coils, zoned for lumbar support | Individually wrapped coils, reinforced perimeter |
The WinkBed's Tencel cover and gel infusion add early softness and help the surface sleep cool. Its comfort layer is a gel-infused foam pillow-top, and its support core uses zoned coils for extra lumbar support. The Helix Midnight starts with a soft knit cover, then a layer of proprietary Memory Plus Foam for the slow-moving feel, backed by responsive foam and coils reinforced around the perimeter on a high-density foam base. The WinkBed stands 14 inches tall and the Helix a bit shorter at 12 inches.
At full price the Helix Midnight runs cheaper than the WinkBed across every size.
| Size | WinkBed | Helix Midnight |
|---|---|---|
| Twin | $1,149.00 | $998.66 |
| Twin XL | $1,249.00 | $1,124.00 |
| Full | $1,499.00 | $1,248.00 |
| Queen | $1,799.00 | $1,332.00 |
| King | $1,999.00 | $1,810.66 |
| California King | $2,049.00 | $1,810.66 |

Before you decide, a few performance factors can tip the balance.
This one was close to a tie. The WinkBed uses cooling Tencel and a gel infusion in its foam, plus coils that allow plenty of airflow. The Helix also has a cooling cover and airflow-friendly coils, though its memory foam top is a little more prone to heat retention. Both should stay cool enough for the average sleeper.
The Helix Midnight is the clear winner. Its memory foam comfort layer absorbs motion and minimizes disturbance across the surface, which makes it the better pick for couples and light sleepers. The WinkBed lets more motion travel from one side of the bed to the other.
Even though the Helix has a reinforced perimeter, the WinkBed offered better edge support in our testing. We felt more secure sitting and lying near the edges of the WinkBed.
Both beds are likely to last seven to 10 years. The WinkBed should hold up a bit better against sagging, which is reflected in its longer warranty.
The company policies differ in ways worth weighing before you buy.
The WinkBed comes with a Lifetime warranty, while the Helix Midnight comes with a 10-year warranty.
The WinkBed has a 120-night sleep trial. The Helix is almost as long at 100 nights, and Helix asks customers to try the mattress for 30 days before starting a return.
Both brands offer free shipping. WinkBeds will coordinate an exchange or arrange pickup for recycling or donation if the bed isn't working for you. With the Helix, you can return it for a full refund during the 100-night trial.
Go with the WinkBed if you want a traditional, bouncy innerspring feel, sleep on your back or stomach, weigh over 230 pounds, or want the longest warranty. Go with the Helix Midnight if you sleep on your side, share the bed with a partner who moves a lot, want better motion isolation, or want to spend less. Both come with risk-free trials, so you only keep the bed if it turns out to be the right one for you.
The WinkBed is the closest comparison covered here: both are hybrid mattresses with coils under plusher comfort layers and similar above-average firmness. The difference is feel - the Helix Midnight contours like memory foam and isolates motion better, while the WinkBed has a bouncier innerspring feel with stronger edge support.
If you want a hybrid in the same class but more budget-friendly with deeper contouring and better motion isolation, the Helix Midnight is the main alternative. For heavier sleepers who like the WinkBed but need more support, WinkBeds also makes the WinkBed Plus.
Yes. We got better pressure relief side-sleeping on the Helix than on the WinkBed because its slow-moving comfort layers contour around the shoulder and hip. Lightweight side sleepers in particular should find good pressure relief.
The Helix Midnight. Its memory foam comfort layer absorbs motion and minimizes disturbance across the surface, so partners feel less of each other's movement than they would on the WinkBed.
