How To Dry A Mattress? 6 Fast & Easy Steps

Nobody want to sleep on a wet mattress. But don’t worry! Drying them is a straightforward process with just a few steps to complete at your home. Don’t let a damp bed ruin your sleep! Today, I will explain how to quickly and effectively dry a mattress.

How To Dry A Mattress?

Before drying the mattress, remove any excess moisture and stains first. Then, continue following step-by-step below:

Step 1: Absorb excess moisture

Treating excessive moisture is one of the first things to do when there’s a spill on your bedding. You can easily do it by placing a dry, clean towel on the wet area. Just leave the towel there as it is soaking up the water. If you have something heavy, like a bottle or a book, place it on the towel to help absorb the moisture more effectively.

Step 2: Treat stains

If you see any stains on the mattress, such as blood or urine, you need to clean them properly. The most suitable cleaning solution depends on the type of stain you are dealing with.

For example, to remove urine stains, you can create a solution using hydrogen peroxide. Then, dab it on the stained area and gently rub it with a clean cloth. For blood and other stubborn stains, hydrogen peroxide must be the best option, you just need to perform the same steps as above.

Note: Regardless of the type of stain, remember to be gentle. Otherwise, you will damage the mattress.

Step 3: Vacuum the mattress

If a part of your mattress gets wet, such as when rain enters through the window, use a towel to absorb the moisture before using a vacuum. To start, disinfect the vacuum’s nozzle by wiping it using an antibacterial wipe. Then, turn the machine on. You can use its nozzle to go over the wet parts in long and even strokes to let the liquid evaporate.

Step 4: Use a dehumidifier

You can also use a dehumidifier when your mattress feels humid to help remove the extra moisture from the air, making your bed dry faster. When the machine is running, the moisture can escape gradually.

Step 5: Sunlight exposure

Another effective way to dry your wet bedding is to expose it to direct sunlight which kills bacteria in the mattress. Just take it outside and find the sunniest spot in your yard. But before placing the mattress there, make sure to put an old blanket or a plastic sheet underneath to keep it clean. This method is helpful on hot sunny days.

Step 6: Consider using a fan

You can prop the mattress against the wall and then get a fan. Next, place your fan facing the wet part of the bedding, so the fan can now blow air into the damp area to remove moisture. Your fan needs to work for 6 – 8 hours or until your bedding feels totally dry. It takes time, but this method is simple. It gives the mattress a nice breeze.

Are There Any Risks While You Dry Mattresses?

Drying mattresses is necessary. However, you may risk damaging the mattress if you don’t do it properly.

Damage to the mattresses

When drying your mattress, you should be careful and avoid using sharp or hard objects. For example, do not use sharp or hard objects, or you may risk tearing them. The cleaning solution should be gentle, too. I prefer using green cleaning solutions, like baking soda and vinegar. They have excellent cleaning properties but are not too harsh for mattresses.

Insufficient drying

The goal of drying mattresses is to make them completely dry. However, if there is still moisture inside, you will face the risk of bacterial development.

How To Prevent The Risk Of Mattresses Getting Wet?

To avoid this risk, you can follow these 3 tips:

  • Cover your mattress with a waterproof mattress cover to prevent any spills.
  • Do not place your mattress near areas where it may be exposed to water, like windows or doors.
  • Avoid drinking anything that can spill and make your bed wet.
Try to keep the bedding dry and clean
